Day 4: Shining by Sanctus Real – 25 Songs Til Christmas

Song Credits: “Shining” by Sanctus Real

Here are the lyrics:

The dawn of peace Christmas Eve, the final night the world would sleep,
Fearful of the dark, but there was a shining star leading
Wise men to a humble place, where they would find the Gift of Grace,
Laying before their eyes, hope had come to life.

The Light of the world was shining; the Light of the world was shining,
He came just like He promised; His love would not be silent.

Hearts would quake on Christmas Day, as they looked upon the Savior’s face,
God became a man; they could reach and touch His hands.
The hands that made the blind to see, that carried the weight of suffering,
That washed away our sins, so we could be born again.

The Light of the world is shining; the Light of the world is shining,
He came just like He promised; His love will not be silent
The Light of the world is shining, from heaven to earth He’s shining,
He came just like He promised; His love will not be silent,

The world knows Christ is born, oh; the King of love has come,
And our hearts will be His throne, it is known, Christ is born.
Light of the world, leading us home, Shepherd of Hearts, come for His own,

The Light of the world is shining; the Light of the world is shining,
He came just like He promised; His love will not be silent
The Light of the world is shining, from heaven to earth He’s shining,
He came just like He promised; His love will not be silent,
He’s shining. When you’ve grown up reading the Christmas story for years, sometimes it can be tempting to say “I already know this” and miss out on further insights. I love the fact that Sanctus Real focuses on the humanity of Jesus.“God became a man; they could reach and touch His hands.
The hands that made the blind to see, that carried the weight of suffering,
That washed away our sins, so we could be born again.

Jesus came to earth – fully God, but also fully man. He traded the glories of heaven to become like us. It would have been amazing to be alive in those times! To see Jesus perform miracles and heal the sick. To hear him talk about the Kingdom of God and rebuke the Pharisees.

In John 8:12 (ESV), Jesus says,

“I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

It’s amazing to think that Jesus came down from the glories of heaven in order to sacrifice His life for us; to bring us the chance of eternal life with God and to bring light to the dark world.

There are so many verses about light/darkness contrast including John 3:19-21 (ESV),

“And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed. But whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his works have been carried out in God.”

So we don’t have to fear evil and we don’t have to fear the light. As Christians, we should reflect Jesus’ light and shine for Him.

We can encourage people that Jesus is “shining” and the reason we celebrate Christmas. He turned the world upside down and brought hope to a despairing world. We never have to fear darkness or walk away from the light.

Jesus is shining and His love will not be silenced. Praise God!
